Oakpark Security began an exciting new contract this week with one of the UK’s leading building materials companies to protect their site near Colchester in Essex. The customer approached us with a specific problem of unauthorised access onto their 200 acre quarry, mainly by teenagers who were using the site for cycling stunts, ball games or simply somewhere to congregate. Our client was concerned about the possibility of serious injury to these youths given the large stockpiles of sand/gravel, working machinery and hostile terrain underfoot.
After conducting a detailed site visit and several weeks of consultations with our customer, Oakpark Security’s project team proposed a Mobile Guarding solution to address these specific problems. This involved a dedicated patrol vehicle – a Toyota Hilux – being deployed to site to provide ongoing perimeter checks and respond to any intruders onsite immediately.
As with our previous Mobile Guarding solutions, particularly those that have involved providing quarry security, Oakpark Security’s team conducted a rigorous Risk Assessment to ensure that we provided the safest possible working environment for our security officers. Not only were standard precautions such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), speed restrictions on the vehicle and a one-to-one site induction implemented, our officers were also provided access to the mobile application provided by the Quarries National Joint Advisory Committee (QNJAC) which advises on key health and safety issues within the quarry working environment.
